The organizing body within the Democratic National Committee voted down a recent push to feature a climate-specific presidential debate Thursday; rejecting mounting pressure from environmental groups and high-profile politicians like Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
“DNC’s resolution committee voted against the measure, though a resolution calling for a climate debate could still be considered for a vote by the full committee Saturday as they continue to meet over the weekend,” reports the Hill.
“We are in a climate emergency. If we’re going to prevent the most catastrophic impacts of climate change, we need to know how those vying to become our next president are going to confront the fossil fuel industry and accelerate the transition to renewable energy from day one. Talking points and sound bites don’t cut it anymore,” said Greenpeace in a written statement.
Controversial Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez doubled-down on her ‘Green New Deal’ this week; bizarrely questioning whether the city of Miami “will exist in 50 years” and asking “what are going to do about this?”
“I don’t think we’re discussing climate change the way we need to be discussing climate change. It is such a huge, broad, system issue. You can’t just say, ‘Is Miami going to exist in 50 years?’ We need to say, ‘What are you going to do about this?’” pondered Ocasio-Cortez.
Ocasio-Cortez similarly confused millions of users on social media Tuesday; calling the Electoral College a “racist scam” while searching for American voters in the desert.
“Alright everyone, it’s been a minute, we’re coming to you live from the Electoral College… Many votes here as you can see. A very efficient way to choose leadership of the country. I can’t think of any other way, can you?” quipped Ocasio-Cortez on social media.
